Dirk IS a badass. He’s intelligent. He’s awesome. He’s just a really fucking great character who OH HEY GUESS WHAT, HAPPENS TO BE QUEER. His character isn’t summed up by his queerness, it’s just an aspect of his character.
Because of the way fandom reacts to something in the source material IS NOT THE FUCKING FAULT OF THE CREATOR.
And here, you’re fucking acting like, OH HEY IT’S ANDREW’S FAULT FOR MAKING HIM GAY. AND BY FUCKING EXTENSION, YOU’RE ACTING LIKE IT’S DIRK’S FAULT FOR ACTUALLY BEING GAY.

Yeah, sure, it sucks the way fandom will get carried away with certain things. I get that. I really do. But despite it being frustrating, you know what, you gotta realize that most people are just REALLY EXCITED to have a canon queer character in something.
Not every person in this fandom treats Dirk as “slash fan fuel” or whatever the fuck you’re claiming. Honestly, I see this complained about A FUCKING LOT and you know? I don’t really see it nearly as often as everyone else does, so I don’t know what part of the fandom you’re hanging out in.
Plenty of people treat Dirk like a complex character, who just happens to be queer.
Just. No. This whole thing is too fucking STUPID to even continue reacting to.
